Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Hanging Garden (a.k.a. Vertical Garden)

REUSING OUR Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) BOTTLES:

Vertical Hanging Garden

WHAT YOU NEED:

• 1.5L PET Bottles - try to use bottles of the same shape and/or color

• Potting or garden soil

• Seedlings - we used medicinal and ornamental plants • Nylon Cord • Screw Driver or any sharp object to poke small holes

• Scissor/Cutter • Washer - used as stopper for the nylon cord

• Heater - we used denatured alcohol

• Match

DIRECTIONS:

1. REMOVE the label of the bottle.

2. WASH the bottles.

3. KEEP the lids on the bottles to stop the soil from falling through the side.

4. CUT a rectangle in the middle of your bottle (Use a standard size for the holes). This will be the opening for your soil and seedlings.

5. POKE small holes on opposite sides of your bottle using the screw driver. Heating the edge of your screw driver will make it easier to poke through the plastic.These holes will serve as the holder and for drainage.

6. MEASURE the length of your desired vertical garden. DETERMINE the length of string needed to attach each bottle in your vertical hanging garden.

7. TAKE the first string and insert it through the hole from the upper portion of the bottle until it passes through the bottom hole.

8. LOCK the cord using a washer. Do the same with another piece of string for the other side of the bottle.

9. HANG the bottle up on a high surface with the loops hanging off stable hooks. Keeping it stable and straight.

10. REPEAT for the other bottles, attaching the appropriate length of string and attaching it on the sides of bottles.

11. ATTACH the strings to the bottles above until you have your vertical hanging garden.
